Dental Services
Holistic Dentistry is an approach to oral care in which we focus on services that offer you optimal wellbeing.
We use biocompatible materials and minimally-invasive procedures that do not harm the natural flow of your body’s healing process.
In dentistry, biocompatibility is the ability of a dental material or device to function in harmony with the body without causing adverse reactions. At Southern Ocean Smiles our products and services all serve this aim.
Our dental materials include ceramic, glass, and Bisphenol-A (BPA) free resins.
We don’t use fluoride, amalgam (silver) or BPA filled composite resins which are used by conventional dentistry practices.
We have state of the art minimal radiation X-ray units to minimise the impact to your body.
Why we don’t recommend fluoride products
While fluoride is said to be safe in small amounts, it can be toxic if received in high doses. In fact, fluoride toxicity is a valuable concern in many parts of the world where its levels are already high in available drinking water.
Hydroxyapatite, on the other hand, is completely non-toxic. It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s found throughout our bodies in our teeth and bones. It has been used in medicine for many years and has been proven to be just as effective as fluoride in reducing and preventing cavities.
Several recent studies have compared the effectiveness of hydroxyapatite to fluoride toothpastes, and the results are promising. One study found that hydroxyapatite exceeded fluoride at remineralizing early-stage cavities.
- Hydroxyapatite can also help with tooth sensitivity whilst strengthening the enamel, which can reduce sensitivity to hot, cold, and sweet foods and drinks.
- Hydroxyapatite toothpaste is better for the environment as Fluoride is a chemical that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly.
- Hydroxyapatite, on the other hand, is a natural substance that is completely biodegradable.
So if you’re looking for an eco-friendly, biochemically safe toothpaste option, hydroxyapatite toothpaste is the way to go.
